New Mercies is a truly open-door Christian fellowship. We do not follow any particular denomination, and have Christians of all types. Our network focuses on people re-entering our community, however, about half the members who call our fellowship family have no criminal background. Some of our members are ordained minsters, but you don't even need to know quite how you stand with Christ to attend, as long as you are willing to honestly listen and be a part of our worship. You are welcome to attend one of our Thursday night meetings anytime. New Mercies is about relationships, not programs. We want to get to know YOU and we want you to get to know us. Want to know more? Check out our About Us!
Our Thursday night worship is the core of our network. We meet three times a month at 6 PM.
1st Thursday: We meet at the Prayer Room in Waynesboro
2nd Thursday: We meet at the Community Center in Verona
4th Thursday: We meet at the Community Center in Verona
While our group is relatively informal and every evening is a little different, there are some pretty consistent aspects of our fellowship: The night begins with a meal which everyone is invited to share together. We then bring prayer requests and praise reports and sing a few songs. One of our members then offers a message or topic, and we break into small, 3-4 person groups to discuss our perspectives and beliefs on the subject. The evening wraps up by about 8 PM. Anyone 18 and up is welcome.
New Mercies facilitates three, biblically-based, full day relationship seminars several times a year. These classes are based on the programs developed by Equipping Ministries International. Click any of the images to go to EMI's site and learn more about their classes, or just ask us!
Listening is the foundational step to good relationships. We show more love by listening than by talking.
Are we building up, or tearing down with our words? Explore how to root your speech in love.
In this class, we challenge our false beliefs and seek to replace them with the truth that the Holy Spirit imparts.
The aim of New Mercies is to create a space for people who have been convicted by the courts, so that they may have meaningful fellowship with other Christians and build a new circle of support. We believe that, "Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain" (Psalm 127:1), meaning that if God doesn't underpin our lives as we seek to rebuild after incarceration, then we should not be surprised when we face nothing but frustration and failure.
The ex-inmate support group is a group by ex-inmates, for ex-inmates. It meets at 6 PM Tuesday nights at the home of one of our founding members. We start with a shared meal, then work through a bible study program together. Discussion and questions are welcome; our purpose is to strengthen our faith and understanding, not to lecture or indoctrinate anyone. The group wraps up by 8 PM to allow anyone on probation to get home before curfew. Interested? Please contact us for more details!
This is a group that allows the women of New Mercies to fellowship together and support one another. The group is open to any woman who wants to be involved in the mind renewing power of Transformation Prayer Ministry. A brief description from TPM, "A foundation principle of TPM is that we feel whatever we believe. Our beliefs determine how we view and interpret life as it happens. And this interpretation of our situation determines what we feel in the midst of it. The good news is, if our belief changes, then our emotion will naturally change as well; even if our situation remains the same." The main idea of TPM is that through knowing the truth of God's love for us, we can let go of so many false beliefs that make us feel unworthy and broken.
If you feel like you are constantly struggling against worry, doubt, anger, sadness, or any persistent frustrations, perhaps you would benefit from this program. Meeting times and locations fluctuate based on the schedules of the group members. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact us!
